ARTECINEMA The International Contemporary Art Film Festival will return to Naples

From 15 to 22 October, 2021 Artecinema, the International Contemporary Art Film Festival will return to Naples to celebrate its 26th anniversary.

Curated by Laura Trisorio, the Festival will be held in the leading theatres of Naples, the San Carlo Theatre and the Augusteo Theatre, and concurrently – from 16 to 22 October – at https://online.artecinema.com/, the new digital platform so that the public can also be able to enjoy the films at home.


A week under the banner of filmography dedicated to contemporary art, photography, architecture and design to delve into frequently disguised or untold aspects of creative genesis: through documentaries of major artists, architects and photographers on the international scene, viewers will be able to enter their studios, observe and better understand their work, as they are immersed in the materials used by the artists.


For the 26th annual Festival, 24 films have been scheduled and divided into three sections: Art and Environs, Architecture and Design, and Photography. The films hail from various countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Finland, Australia and Serbia, 80% of which are Italian premiers and some are world premieres.


All the films will be projected in their original language with subtitles in Italian and/or English. Directors and artists will appear in person at the inauguration to present their films.


The programme includes, among others, films on Marina Abramović, Mel Bochner, Joseph Beuys, Alighiero Boetti, Christian Boltanski, Albrecht Dürer, Lucio Fontana, Wolfgang Laib, Guadalupe Maravilla, Helmut Newton, Pino Pascali, Michael Rakowitz, Eugenio Tibaldi, John Wood & Paul Harrison, on the architect Alvar Aalto and on the architect and designer Ettore Sottsass as well as the film on Man Ray, with his friends Pablo Picasso, Dora Maar, Paul Eluard and Lee Miller, which was made in 1937 during a holiday in Antibes.
